*एक जमीदार था, एक उसकी घर वाली थी। घर मे दो जने ही थे। जमीदार खेत मे काम करता था और उसकी पत्नी घर का काम करती थी। पति-पत्नी दोनों ही गरम स्वभाव के थे। थोड़ी थोड़ी बात पर दोनों मे ठन जाती थी। कभी कभी तो घरवाली का बना बनाया खाना भी बेकार हो जाता था। एक दिन घरवाली अपनी रिश्तेदारी मे गई। वहां उसे एक बुजुर्ग औरत मिली। बातों बातों मे जमींदार की घरवाली ने बुजुर्ग औरत को बताया कि मेरे घरवाले का मिजाज बहुत चिड़चिड़ा है वे जब तब मेरे से लड़ते ही रहते हैं। कभी कभी इससे हमारी बनी बनाई रसोई बेकार चली जाती है। बुजुर्ग महिला ने कहा यह कोई बड़ी बात नहीं है। ऐसा तो हर घर मे होता रहता है। मेरे पास इस की एक अचूक दवा है। जब भी कभी तेरा घरवाला तेरे साथ लड़े, तब तुम उस दवा को अपने मुंह मे रख लेना, इस से तुम्हारा घरवाला अपने आप चुप हो जाएगा। बुजुर्ग महिला अपने अन्दर गई, एक शीशी भर कर ले आई और उसे दे दी।*

*जमीदार की घरवाली ने घर आ कर दवा की परीक्षा करनी शुरू कर दी जब भी जमीदार उस से लड़ता था वह दवा मुंह मे रख लेती थी। इस से काफी असर दिखाई दिया। जमीदार का लड़ना काफी कम हो गया था। यह देख कर वह काफी खुश हुई। वह ख़ुशी-ख़ुशी बुजुर्ग महिला के पास गई और कहा आप की दवाई तो कारगर सिद्ध हुई है, आप ने इस मे क्या क्या डाला है जरा बता देना, मे इसे घर मे ही बना लूँगी। बार बार आना जाना मुश्किल हो जाता है। इसपर बुजुर्ग महिला ने जवाब दिया की जो शीशी मैंने तुम्हे दी थी उस मे शुद्ध जल के सिवाय कुछ भी नहीं था। तुम्हारी समस्या का हल तो तुम्हारे चुप रहने से हुई है। जब तुम दवा यानि की पानी को मुंह मे भर लेती थी तो तुम बोल नहीं सकती थी और तुम्हारी चुप्पी को देख कर तुम्हारे घरवाले का भी क्रोध शांत हो जाता था। इसी को "एक चुप सौ सुख" कहते हैं*
